EMERGING MARKETS

In the spirit of innovation we will create an investment model that compensates private landowners for the range of benefits — like clean air and water — that originate in their forests

Priority

Create greater visibility for the role that healthy forests have on water quality and availability. We connect forest landowners with potential investors or buyers (e.g. municipalities or corporate interests) to create an ecosystem services market for water. We facilitate connections, convene dialogues, and are advancing the science to demonstrate the viability of a water market.

Results

  • Created the podcast series How the River Flows

    • ten episodes including over twenty different interviewees

  • Published a report by the Dovetail Partners that outlined the ecosystem services market structures that work best for southern forest landowners and water users and providers.

  • Working with N.C. State University, we are developing predictive models to quantify forest benefits for water quality & quantity. These models will be available as a web-based tool to support users in deciding the value of a water market.
