Communicating the Forest-Water Connection
Nacogdoches, TX - Water is essential to all living things. This basic necessity is being increasingly diminished in the Western U.S. due to droughts and increased demand due to population growth. The State of Texas divides what we consider the West and the South and serves as a warning to other Southern states of what could be to come. Keeping Forests is striving to protect southern forests by supporting private landowners whose forests provide clean air and water, recreational opportunities, wildlife habitat and forest products.
Forest Champion: EJ Williams
Oliver, GA - The South Georgia summers are known for their brutal heat and humidity. If you can time it right first thing in the morning, sometimes you get a cool breeze. The early hours of the day are filled with the dawn chorus. Most mornings, you can find EJ Williams, Vice President of the Southeast Region for the American Bird Conservancy (ABC), in the forest. Williams has been a proud advocate for working forests and the role they play in providing bird habitat across the U.S. South.

How do we conserve and sustain the 245 million acres of remaining forest in the South?
While we knew that the question wouldn’t be resolved that day, there was something powerful that we walked away with: we believed that we could.
