The ‘Ask for Wood, Ask for Paper’ Campaign

TRADITIONAL FOREST PRODUCTS

In 2021, the Traditional Forest Products workstream took over the Ask For Wood, Ask for Paper campaign to continue addressing the need to educate the public about the benefits of wood in the built environment. This campaign was designed to connect forest landowners, foresters, conservationists and others with resources and information to advocate for wood utilization in their community projects. At the center of the campaign is a website that will discuss the connection between wood and paper products and healthy forests, a better environment, and improved rural economies.

“There are several organizations that provide great content and resources related to advancing the market for wood and mass timber,” said Rick Cantrell, Traditional Forest Products Lead. “We are excited to bolster this effort with the Ask for Wood, Ask for Paper campaign, which is focused on empowering our forestry community in the U.S. South with custom resources to answer questions at the local level. We hope this effort will inspire a movement to heavily engage local leaders to advance markets for traditional forest products, which are so important to conserving our southern forests.”

Recently, through support from Southern Regional Extension Forestry, the Ask for Wood website was given a light refresh. In addition, the group has developed a set of one pagers that will continue to be adjusted and improved.
